you have made it!!! It is THE END. number five on my altered book sampler. This is the first story page in the book...notice that it is the last page of the actual story...i am soooo evil.
as a failed note, the previos one (#3) with the FREE LUNCH page on the left was me expressing my frustration at the 'free lunch' quality of the magic in the book. 'There just ain't no such thing as a free lunch'-i love heinlein
Very creative I LIKE Harry Potter, so I'm not with you on the criticism, but I think it's witty and clever. (I'm Luthy from TORC, by the way, followed the link in your sig.) Out of curiosity... what exactly about HP is it that bothers you so much?
I'd say the only thing about this that really bothers me is the part where you set it on fire. Reminds me WAY too much of things like Fahrenheit 451... book burnings make me whether it's Harry Potter or Mein Kampf or the Bible or Koran or anything else... trying to eliminate ANY point of view (or even work of fiction) is dangerous.
...[/ramble]
Anyway, it's clever! Is there a precedent for this sort of thing, "book alterings"? Or did you come up with it on your own?

I actually wasn't trying to eliminate a point of view, but instead just make a point. I suppose what bothers me most about Harry Potter is the fact that it is obvious that most of her ideas she ripped off of bad '80s books, and her writing is pretty bad. Her sentence structure is lacking, her descriptions are empty, and her story could do with some definite re-vamping (Hey, I know that what I post here isn't that great...but it is to make it look like i am doing something. All of my other stuff is safely stored on a different computer)
A lot of the book centred around destruction and traditional ideas of magic. It went back to prices and whatnot. I thought that the flame was fitting.
and I guessed you were luthy, the name is a giveaway.
there is a precedent. It was an extra-credit assignment given to me by one of my teachers. I know for a fact that others on deviant art do altered books. I saw a discussion on it once in a forum.
when I started on this subject, my thought was, how the hell can I mess up a book...but one you start, it is absolutely amazing. It really makes you think. I think everyone should alter a book sometime in there life, if only to feel the initial shock of committing sacrilige.
Also, there is a frend of mine on here, aetris, who altered a book when I did. Unfortunately, he hasn't posted it.
I took a distant cousin of an exacto-knife, and sawed through the cover. In and of itself it took quite a few hours to cut out the diamonds on both covers. Then I glued strips of construction paper to the inside.
Most of the kids used out of date teen psychology books from the fifties...and other such nonsense pieces, but I had fun bringing in my own books The other two prospectives were a philosophy text, and a lit and composition text.
Oh, too bad I don't have my philosophy textbook from last semester anymore, I hated that thing with a passion... I don't hate philosophy, but this textbook was the stupidest thing I've ever read in my life!!
Maybe some Freud...

Well, thanks for explaining. And you weren't doing mass burnings of all the copies you could lay your hands on or anything...
Anyway, as I said, I think it's clever and creative... though I'd still like to know (because I'd like to see some others if there is) if there's a precedent for this, somewhere you got inspiration from, or if you came up with it on your own? It's a neat idea either way...

The sixth issue of Artistic Assortments is here! Featuring work from groups and my own personal favourites this week from the people I watch! Please fav the article if you like it, and if you want to get featured, scroll down to find out how.
To help inspire you this month, #project-improve and #ProjectComment have joined creative and collaborative forces to bring you 'An Image Is Worth A Thousand Words' Contest.
The theme of this contest is pretty much as the title states; we would like you to draw on inspiration for a piece of literature that coincides with an image of your choice. The extent of the involvement of the image is entirely up to you.
Both visual artists and writers can take part, so please read the article to find out more!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
If you're looking for a deviant to brighten up your day, look no further than `JurgenDoe. Jurgen's infectious enthusiasm and passion for deviantART is evident in all areas. His generous community spirit and positive energy have earned him a reputation within our community as being someone who is a role model to us all. Jurgen's eclectic gallery gives you a glimpse into his vibrant personality, and shows that he's not just good at cooking up a storm in the kitchen, but that he's always prepared to throw some devious spices into his artistic endeavours. So with a dash of hooray and a heaped spoonful of congratulations, we are delighted to present the Deviou... Read More

By the way, how did you get that awesome cover? Did you cut all the way through the hard cover?
